One of its most important properties is its ability to bind water - it is capable of binding over one thousand times its molecular weight in water, and becomes a gel in aqueous media - thus participating in physiological processes, immune system activity and the normal functioning of cells.
It is also an important antioxidant, stimulates collagen and elastin production and is responsible for skin hydration, elasticity and firmness. It plays a role in cell regeneration and protects against external damage due to its cell-protective properties. With age, the skin loses elasticity, firmness and hydration, leading to the development of fine lines and wrinkles, which then deepen.
