The implant is a screw, usually made of titanium alloy, which is placed into the bone structure at the site of the lost tooth, where it unites (osseointegrates) with the bone structure, and later the aesthetics and function of the lost tooth/teeth can be replaced by a dental prosthesis (crown, bridge, removable prosthesis) built on the implant. In cases of severe fear, the surgery can be performed under anaesthesia or in conscious sedation.
